Blazen Hazen BBQ began with a weekend getaway, a Groupon, and a spark that’s never gone out. During a trip with my wife to the Bay Area, we found ourselves on Treasure Island at the (now former) Bay Area BBQ and Grilling School. That day changed everything.
What started as a fun class turned into a passion for fire, smoke, and the craft of great barbecue and over time, Blazen Hazen BBQ was born.
We’re a local, small-batch BBQ operation based in Placer County, California. From brew fests to community events, we bring smoked tri-tip, juicy hot links, tangy sides, and real-deal BBQ to people who appreciate craft cooking done right.

It’s a nod to our last name and the fire behind everything we do. “Blazen” isn’t just smoke and heat; it’s about passion, heart, and bringing that intensity to every rack of ribs and every bite of tri-tip.
Meet the Pitmaster
I’m Donavon Hazen, founder of Blazen Hazen BBQ. What started as a simple date weekend turned into a journey through smoke, spice, and competition-style flavor. I’ve spent the years since refining my techniques, testing recipes, and sharing my food with family, friends, and strangers who’ve become fans.
When I’m not near the smoker, I’m spending time with my wife, kids, and working toward building something meaningful, one sandwich and slab at a time.
